The Ottawa Historical Association is pleased to announce that its next regular lecture will be delivered by Janice Cavell and Jeff Noakes on “Taking Hold of the North: The International Quest for an Arctic Continent, 1900-1930.” The lecture will take place on Thursday, February 16, 2012 at 7:30 pm in Room 2017, Dunton Tower, Carleton University, 101 Colonel By Drive. Dr. Janice Cavell is a historian with the Historical Section, Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade and an Adjunct Research Professor at Carleton University. She has edited several volumes in the series, Documents on Canadian External Relations, and is the author of Tracing the connected narrative: Arctic exploration in British print culture, 1818-1860.
Dr. Jeff Noakes is the Second World War historian at the Canadian War Museum, where he has worked on a number of exhibitions including Canada’s Naval History, an online exhibition. In addition to his responsibilities at the museum, he has carried out research and presentations relating to the Cold War and the Canadian Arctic. Janice Cavell and Jeff Noakes are co-authors of Acts of Occupation: Canada and Arctic Sovereignty, 1918-25.
